Mary's story so far...

Mary grew up in the rural Midwest where the sky is a big blue bowl above vast acres of gold and green crops. Landscapes have always appealed to her artistic sensibilities. Brush and lens are her tools for capturing, observing, documenting, and forever reaching forward to embrace the natural world.

Settling in New England where descendants had put down their roots decades earlier, the natural world continues to be the focus of her work, mostly en plein air landscapes and seascapes. Throughout her career, Mary has promoted art education through her teaching, workshops, writing and research. Beyond the intrinsic value of the arts, she believes the arts have multiple and diverse roles in society and education. She also holds an Ed.M. in the Arts from Harvard University.

Mary has traveled extensively in search of subjects for her artwork and has a portfolio that includes oil, watercolor, pastel and photography. She is an active participant in the art communities of New England showing her artwork in galleries and exhibitions where she has been recognized with several awards. She lives in South Dartmouth, MA with her husband who shares her passion for the arts. They have five adult children who express creativity in the arts; visiting them throughout the world is one of their favorite pastimes.
