Mary's story so far...

Growing up in the rural Midwest where the sky is a big blue bowl above acres of gold and green crops, the landscape has remained a prevalent part of Mary’s artistic sensibilities. The occasional vertical lines of trees briefly interrupt the expansive horizon. Storm clouds twist and turn to produce grays, greens, and an earthy-musty whiff of wetness to the summer landscape. Brush and lens were her tools for capturing, observing, documenting, and forever stretching forward to embrace the natural world.

Settling in New England where descendants had put down their roots decades earlier, the natural world continues to be the focus of her work, mostly en plein air landscapes and seascapes. She was educated at The Ohio State University and Harvard University and has spent years painting, photographing, teaching, learning, researching, and critiquing. It all started with a birthday gift of a Brownie camera and an inherited set of oil paints. After an art award in the third grade boosted her confidence, there was no turning back from a life’s work in art.

Her portfolio of artwork includes oil painting, photography, watercolor, and pastel and can be found mostly in private collections. She is active in the South Coast art community exhibiting in galleries and exhibitions and has been recognized with various awards. She lives in South Dartmouth, MA with her husband, Bruce Hubbard, who shares her passion for the arts. They have five adult children who express creativity in the arts; visiting them throughout the world is one of their favorite pastimes.
